Our unique White Duck Down filling.
White Duck Down filling is made from the soft, fluffy undercoating of the duck.
Down is a natural insulator that's lightweight, compressible, and breathable. It's made up of thousands of tiny, soft filaments that form clusters that trap air and retain body heat. This process is called "lofting".
Down is often used as a filling for duvets and pillows. The amount and size of the down clusters determines the loft and warmth of the item.
Down is delicate, so it's cleaned using large, closed-loop machinery. The down is rinsed and cleaned multiple times, and tested for the proper fat-to-oil balance.
Down products can't be advertised as "all down," "pure down," or "100% down" because it's impossible to achieve. To be labeled as "down," a product must contain at least 75% down clusters.
Therefore down is the layer of fine feathers found under tougher exterior feathers, usually obtained from the breast area of ducks. It's extremely light, compressible, breathable, vapor permeable, and durable.
- Spot clean regularly: Wipe down any dirt or debris with a damp cloth.
Wash in a washing machine (if possible): Use a front-loading washer, a gentle cycle, and a specialized down detergent.
Temperature control: Wash in lukewarm water (check the care label for exact temperature).
Dry thoroughly: Use a large dryer with low heat and a few tennis balls to help fluff the down.
Air dry if needed: If your dryer is too small, lay the bag flat in a well-ventilated area to air dry.
Do not tumble dry on high heat: This can damage the down.
Avoid harsh chemicals: Use a mild down detergent and avoid bleach. Important steps when washing a duck down sleeping bag:
- Unzip completely: Open all zippers and Velcro tabs before washing.
Turn inside out: This helps clean the inner lining more effectively.
Add down detergent: Follow the instructions on the detergent bottle for the correct amount.
Gentle cycle: Choose a delicate or hand wash cycle on your washing machine. Rinse thoroughly: Make sure all soap is removed.
Do not overfill the washer: A large capacity washer is preferable for a sleeping bag.
